Move between landscape, container, and component levels of detail.
A model is a nested tree, and Explore lets you choose how deep to render it. Moving between levels is how you go from a big-picture landscape to the internals of a single component.
Levels of nesting
| Level | Shows | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Landscape | Top-level systems and actors | Orientation and context |
| Container | Containers within a system | Service-level structure |
| Component | Components within containers | Implementation detail |
How to change level
| Control | Effect |
|---|---|
| Level slider (bottom toolbar) | Sets global nesting depth, from 1 (landscape) up to the model’s maximum |
| Expand a single node | Reveals one object’s children while the rest stay collapsed |
| Select an object | Centers the canvas on it and its immediate neighborhood |
The Level value is shown next to the slider, so you always know the current depth.
Depth is a lens, not a copy
Changing the level re-renders the same model at a different detail. You are not creating or maintaining separate diagrams.
A practical path
Orient at Level 1
Confirm the top-level systems and how they relate.
Expand the relevant system
Open the subtree for your task to reveal its containers — leave unrelated systems collapsed.
Inspect a component
Select the specific component to read its links, attributes, and attachments in the object panel.
Match the level to your audience. Stakeholders usually need landscape and container depth; engineers often need component detail.
